Is it worth repairing a car that insurance has totaled?

Silvia Stclair: Take the total loss and move on. Cars are never the same or safe after a total.Total loss car insurance does not cost more than other cars. But, take the loss and move on.

Troy Staton: I must disagree about totaled cars not being safe or any good after rebuilding them. I co-own an independent claims adjusting company and two of our company cars are rebuilt totals. We found used parts and had a good, qualified body shop rebuild them. I sent both my kids away to college in rebuilt totaled cars. Never had a problem with either of them.The key to rebuilding a total loss is finding used parts in good shape. (we get most of ours from TX & SD - no rust) AND having a good body shop to do the repairs to safe standards.Rebuilding a total loss can be a hassle and time consuming but It has been worth it for us in the past....Show more

Mee Blumenfeld: Foreign cars a! ren't worth repairing no matter how much or little damage has been done. Most of the damage was done (to our economy) when the car was purchased. Please buy an American car next time. Merry Christmas!
